Willow Hurdle Fence Panels 5ft x 6ft

Five feet is the height most people skip and then wish they hadn’t. The jump from four to six is a big one — six casts a genuine shadow and encloses a small garden completely. At 150cm this willow hurdle hides everything you wanted hidden and still leaves you the sky and the morning light.

It is the elegant solution to the ugly corner. Bins, an oil tank, a compost bay, a heat pump, a tired shed — a run of finely woven willow at this height makes all of it vanish behind something that looks deliberate. On a boundary it gives standing privacy from a neighbour without shading the border along its foot, which a solid panel at the same height would do until lunchtime.

Because it is woven from slim rods rather than split ones, the surface is close, even and quietly refined — nearer basketwork than fencing. The colour is a deep red-brown, russet to oxblood, and it looks identical from both sides, so a shared boundary needs no discussion about which way round it goes.

Why height makes the weave matter more

A solid panel this high is a sail. In a gale it takes the full load and either the panel or the post gives way, and the wind that clears the top drops in a damaging swirl a few feet in. A hurdle lets the gust through and breaks it up: less load on the fence, better shelter for the plants. At this height use the 2.4m post rather than the 1.8m, with a good 60cm in the ground.
