Willow Hurdle Fence Panels 6ft x 6ft

Six feet by six feet, woven by hand from slim willow rods. This is the panel for people who want a real boundary and cannot bear the thought of another decade of orange softwood. It drops straight into the same footprint — post for post, gap for gap — and changes the character of a garden the day it goes up.

At 180cm you have genuine standing privacy from a path, a road or a neighbour’s window. What you don’t have is a blank wall. The close willow weave catches light across the day and reads as texture and depth rather than a flat face, and a garden enclosed in willow consistently feels bigger than the same garden enclosed in board. It also presents the identical finished face on both sides — no rails, no posts, no bad side — which on a shared boundary is worth more than people expect.

The colour is a deep red-brown, russet through to oxblood as the light moves, and it holds that warmth. For a full-height boundary that recedes instead, our hazel hurdles are a soft silvery grey-brown at the same height.

Why a hurdle beats a solid panel in wind

A solid six-foot fence is a sail: it takes the full force of a gale and something has to give, and the wind that clears it drops in a hard swirl a few feet beyond, flattening the very planting you put there for shelter. A woven hurdle filters. The gust passes through and is broken up, so the panel carries a fraction of the load and the border behind it comes through the winter looking well. Market gardeners were using them as windbreaks long before anyone chose one for the look of it.

Made to order

The full-height willow panel is woven to order rather than held in stock, so allow a little longer than for the shorter heights. If you need a 6ft boundary sooner, the hazel 6ft × 6ft is normally available straight away.
